5-year-old boy killed in Asin Road accident

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy was declared dead upon arrival in the hospital, after he dashed across the street and was run over by a jeepney going up Asin Road, early Monday evening.

The victim was identified Tuesday in a report to Supt. Francisco Manalo Jr., Baguio City Police Office director, as Alexander Dulnuan Baniaga, 5, a resident of Km. 5, Asin Road.

The driver of the vehicle was only named Tuesday by Senior Insp. Elmer Cereno, BCPO Traffic Management Branch chief, as Theodore Asiong.

Asiong was said to be driving a Fuso passenger jitney with plate number AVK-348 at the time of the accident.

An initial investigation disclosed that Asiong was driving up Asin Road and going towards Quirino Highway (formerly Naguilian Road) at around 6:00 p.m. of January 6, when the boy suddenly crossed the road, was bumped and then run over by the vehicle.

He was rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center emergency ward by the same driver with the help of John Lancaster Tindongan, but was declared dead upon arrival there.

A charge of homicide through reckless imprudence was filed against him before the City Prosecutor's Office.

Guard shots, mauls 2 students

ONE STUDENT was shot, while another was mauled by a security guard, after the latter two got into a misunderstanding with each other in front of the Zenco Footstep shoe store branch along Magsaysay Avenue late Monday night.

Supt. Ernesto Gaab, acting Station 7 chief, named the victims as Allen Inbentan Lo-oy aka Bongbong, 23, single, a student, who resides at 207 Honeymoon Road; and Israel Aquino Pepi, 23, married, another student, who lives at the Lachesa Compound in Irisan.

The respondent was also identified as Jawarski Aritumba Buaga, 21, single, a guard employed by Lanting Security Agency, who is assigned to the said establishment.

An initial probe revealed that after a heated altercation erupted between Pepi and Buaga at around 10:30 p.m. of January 6, the latter attacked Pepi and hit him on the left forearm and head with the use of a lead pipe before fleeing.

This made Pepi, Lo-oy and a certain Ayang-ang chase the suspect, prompting the guard to fire his gun at them, hitting Lo-oy on the left arm.

After both victims were brought to BGHMC for treatment, Buaga voluntarily surrendered and turned over his issued cal. 38 revolver bearing serial number 26644 to responding policemen.

PO2s Wilson Fagayan and Anthony Cong-o, officers-on-case, said that Buaga was detained at the Baguio City Jail on two physical injury charges upon the instructions of duty inquest Prosecutor Conrado Catral Jr.

Laborer mauled along Mabini

A LABORER sustained injuries in different parts of his body, after he was mauled without any provocation nor apparent reason by two men, along Mabini Street on Monday night.

However, only one of the suspects was arrested by responding policemen after the other one, who is still unidentified, fled from the scene and remains at large.

The victim was identified Tuesday as Lorenzo Diniega Pambid, 47, married, a laborer, who resides along Balsigan Road.

One of his assailants was also named as Rodel Vergara dela Vega, 46, married and who lives at 8 Ambiong Road.

Pambid claimed that he was mauled by Dela Vega and his cohort, for no reason at all, while along Mabini Street at around 9:15 p.m. of January 6.

However, after Dela Vega was arrested and brought in to Station 7 for questioning, he was released later after signing a promise-to-appear note.

Teener charged with physical injuried

PHYSICAL injury charges, in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-child Abuse Law, were filed against a teenaged girl after she accidentally bumped a five-year old boy and fractured his arm, while biking at Burnham Park late Sunday afternoon.

Senior Insp. Dalifer Galgala, chief of the BCPO Investigation Section and concurrent officer-in-charge of the BCPO Women & Children Concerns Section, described the victim to be 5 and a resident of Evangelista Street, Leonila Hill.

The respondent in this case was also said to be 18, single and from Campo Filipino.
