33 curfew violators, 76 'illegal' vendors nabbed By Gaby Keith and Maryam Aranas
POLICE authorities apprehended a total of 33 youngsters - 12 students, 19 out-of-school youth and two drop-outs - for violating the city's curfew for minors ordinance from December 24, 2002 to February 3, this year.
All were immediately referred to the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development for counseling.
The measure bans minors (those 18 years and below) from loitering in the city from 9 in the evening until 5 in the morning the following day without any adult supervision.
Baguio's finest also nabbed 51 anti-littering violators, 76 ambulat vendors and 11 jaywalkers during the same period in line with the city's on-going clean and green drive.
The litterbugs include 27 drivers, three peddlers, six students, two out-of-school youth, seven jobless, three laborers, one carpenter and two businesspersons.
The campaign is spearheaded by the Alay sa Kalinisan (ASK) committee co-chaired by Mayor Bernardo Vergara and civic leader Reinaldo Bautista Sr.
The list of violators was contained in reports of the BCPO Community Relations Office headed by Sr. Insp. Jovita Garcia.
Garcia said 35 of the litterbugs, 65 ambulant vendors and three of the jaywalkers were made to pay the appropriate fines at the City's Treasurer's Office, while the rest of the violators were given stern warnings.
