Project Oyster benefits 952 youths By Maryam Aranas and Margelyn Akay
A TOTAL of 952 individuals benefited from various trainings and seminars conducted by the Baguio City Police Office last year.
These activities were in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Dept. of Interior and Local Government city field office, TESDA and the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development in line with the PNP's project OYSTER (Out-of-School-Youth Towards Economic Recovery).
The activities included silk screening printing, floristry, distribution of manicure kits, basic computer training, construction painting, seminar workshop on festival on advocacy, special employment program, tour guiding training and other short term courses especially made for all out-of-school-youth.
As to the status of those who underwent the trainings, BCPO Community Relations chief Sr. Insp. Jovita Garcia said that some beneficiaries are now self-employed, others went abroad while some went back to their hometown.
Other beneficiaries are now employed in various construction firms, some as tour guides and several volunteered in traffic assistance.
Garcia said that the trainings were held at different venues including Informatics, Baguio Colleges Foundation and at the BCPO Multi-Purpose Hall. With Gaby Keith
