City to put up billboards on number-coding scheme
MAYOR Bernardo Vergara has ordered City Engineer Leo Bernardez to put up billboards in key entry points to the city to inform incoming tourists about the number-coding scheme currently being implemented.
"There should be a comprehensive information dissemination with maps and signages regarding the number-coding scheme so that our tourists will not be caught off-guard by it," Vergara said during the regular department heads' meeting.
Bernardez said that plans are being drawn up already with regards to the matter and that they are closely coordinating with the Baguio City Police Office, through Supt. Francisco Manalo Jr.
Bernardez added that the CEO and the BCPO have already agreed on the content of the billboard. "The billboard will measure 10'x10' and will specify the plate number endings and the corresponding day when they are not allowed within the covered area of the number-coding scheme."
However, Councilor Edilberto Tenefrancia suggested that the content of the billboard be modified, saying that the proposed text is too long.
"We need to come up with a billboard that will be easily comprehended by our tourists. How do you expect them to read everything that is written in the billboard when they are supposedly driving?" he said.
Vergara also reminded that the CEO should coordinate as well with City Budget Officer Leticia Clemente and City Architect Ignacio Estipona.
"We have to implement this the soonest possible time so as to avoid complaints by the tourists, who are always caught unaware of the scheme," Vergara said.
The mayor also asked that information sheets regarding the number-coding scheme be distributed to the different police precincts, hotels, inns and restaurants. MAC
