Cops firm on bagging wanted politico, dead or alive By Harley F. Palangchao
"DEAD or alive, we have a standing directive to arrest him."
This was the reaction of Senior Supt. Paul Mascariņas, chief of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, over reports that fugitive politician Corey Dickpus, the number one most wanted person in the Cordilleras, has no plans of surrendering even as top police and local officials are negotiating for his peaceful surrender.
The government approved a P1 million reward for the arrest of Dickpus, dead or alive.
Mascariņas said in an interview Sunday that three policemen were tasked to conduct extensive monitoring and surveillance against Dickpus, whom he claimed to be still hiding in Kalinga.
"We received reliable information that Dickpus is still in Kalinga although some top police officials claimed he is already out of the province," Mascarinas said.
Mascariņas brushed off the opinion of Kalinga Gov. Macario Duguiang that some concerned policemen are not in favor of a peaceful but bloody surrender because of the P1 million-reward.
Duguiang, together with top police officials are negotiating the peaceful surrender of Dickpus.
But Mayor Johnny Dickpus of Lubuagan, Kalinga, the older brother of the wanted politician, told reporters that his brother has no plans of surrendering, as he claimed that his brother is afraid that he would be harmed.
Dickpus abandoned his post and went into hiding after the Kalinga police filed multiple murder charges against him, allegedly for masterminding the bloody attack against members of the Special Action Forces resulting to the death of three policemen, including an officer late last year.
Dickpus became the top most wanted person in the region after he reportedly ordered the murder of six Pangasinan traders in 1994.
