DOST urges setting up of your-town.com By Susan Aro
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A search for the best LGU website was recently launched here with the aim of encouraging and inspiring LGUs to develop and enhance their own websites and achieve a higher website stage,
The activity under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology - National Computer Center (DOST-NCC) is in support of the establishment of web presence component of the ongoing eLGU project.
The purpose of establishing websites is to make relevant and useful LGU information readily available to the public. LGUs will likewise have the chance to showcase their province, city or municipality on the World Wide Web.
Qualified LGUs in the Cordillera region to join the competitions include: provincial level - Abra, Benguet; city - Baguio; municipality - La Trinidad, Bangued and Tuba. These are the pilot LGUs in the eLGU project of DOST-NCC.
The contest is composed of two categories - the Content Management System -(CMS) based developed using the DOST-NCC website template and the non-CMS developed using tools other than the CMS.
The contest with prizes at stake will be further broken down into various levels such as provincial, city and municipal where each category will have an overall best LGU website.
Each LGU is entitled to one entry. To join, concerned LGUs must submit a duly accomplished entry form downloadable from the eLGU project website at http://elgu.ncc.gov.ph. Entry forms must bear the signature of the local chief executive or, in his absence; his authorized representative and must be submitted to NCC, either by fax or mail, not later than September 15 this year.
A copy of the entry form may also be secured from any of the NCC field operations offices. Website contest guidelines and other additional information about the contest are available online at the eLGU project website.
