July 15 is special non-working holiday

TUESDAY, July 15, has been declared a special non-working holiday in the region, commemorating the creation of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in July 15, 1987.

CAR is composed of the provinces of Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Apayao, Mt. Province and the lone city of Baguio.

Arroyo's proclamation stressed, "On this historic day, the Cordillera people saw the realization of their aspirations for administrative decentralization, which they have been struggling to achieve for more than half a century."

It also added that the Cordillerans should be given the opportunity "to hold fitting celebrations to highlight the historic significance of the occasion."
