Explosion alarms New Lucban residents

AN IMPROVISED bomb placed on top of a telephone booth along Barangay New Lucban exploded early Sunday morning, causing alarm among residents in the area.

No one was reported injured, but the Baguio City Police Office quickly dismissed speculations that the incident was terrorist-related.

Senior Insp. Elmer Ragay, chief of the BCPO Intelligence and Investigation Division, reported that the explosion only caused minor damages to the phone booth.

He also surmised that the culprit did not have any other intention other than cause panic among residents, although Insp. Emilio Dallo of the BCPO Explosive Ordnance Division said the device has the capability to hurt and even kill anybody who may have been near when the explosion occurred.

But Senior Insp. Lorenzo Sabog, team leader of the BCPO Scene of the Crime (SOCO) team, belied Dallo's statement, claiming that the device can only cause minor damages.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the incident.

It may be recalled that two months ago, a waitress was injured when a homemade explosion rocked a karaoke bar along Baranagay P. Burgos.

BCPO Chief Supt. Francisco Manalo Jr. also brushed off reports that the earlier explosion was terror-related. HFP
