Itogon seeks additional teachers By Tina Sales
ITOGON -- The local government unit is optimistic that its long-time request for additional teachers would finally be achieved under the Arroyo administration.
Since 1998 to 2001, Itogon has been reiterating its request to the National Government, particular the Department of Education (DepEd), for the creation and allocation of more positions for teachers in this town, based on resolutions 154-98 and 188-2001.
Local officials also expressed disappointment over the failure of the DepEd to grant its long-time request for additional teachers, adding that "the past administration (also did not) act on the request of the municipality for additional items for teachers."
Based on information it has been receiving, the present administration is creating and allocating more positions for teachers in the entire country.
As such, the Itogon Council passed another resolution, 103-03, requesting Arroyo to allocate positions for teachers in the municipality.
The measure states that relative to the government's thrust of continuing education and equal access to quality education vis-à-vis the LGU's goal of maintaining and nurturing education development in this town, Itogon urgently needs additional public elementary and secondary school teachers
It added that the LGU could hardly maintain the regular assistance being provided for the salaries of contractual teaches due to extreme financial constraints.
The Provincial Board (PB) Committee on Education has already been tasked to look into this concern.
