CIDG-CAR officer caught inside nightclub

A RANKING official of the regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) was caught Saturday night inside the comfort room of a nightclub in Baguio by police conducting a lifestyle check among policemen.

Supt. Francisco Manalo Jr., director of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), said Sr. Insp. Villaflor Banawagan was arrested inside the comfort room of
Jeck's Disco bar along Naguilian Road after a concerned citizen texted the former of Banawagan's presence inside the night club.

Manalo, who himself is leading the regular lifestyle check told reporters, a team led by Chief Insp. Clint Bayacsan, head of the BCPO Operations, was immediately dispatched to respond to the tip.

Although no firearm was seized from Banawagan, Manalo said an administrative charge is already being prepared for filing against him.

At least six law enforcers including Banawagan, three PNP-Traffic Management Group personnel, a traffic enforcer and a jail guard, were already caught since the ban was enforced on orders of President Arroyo last month.

Chief Supt. Victor Luga, director of the Police Regional Office in the Cordilleras (PRO-CAR), also directed police chiefs to lead in the conduct of
random inspections in nightclubs all over the region.

Luga noted there have been violent incidents inside nightclubs involving some PNP personnel. "In many instances, these PNP personnel were even seen carrying firearms. These are in gross violation of existing rules and it must be checked and stopped." Harley F. Palangchao
