Army reservists of 106th CDC finish anti-terrorism course

THE 106TH Community Defense Center (CDC) of the Philippine Army Reserve Command beat all other CDCs to the draw nationwide, when 63 of its officers and personnel graduated from the 1st Anti-terrorism & Explosives Ordnance Reconnaissance Agents Training Course, held at their headquarters in the Baguio Athletic Bowl on Saturday afternoon.

Gracing the occasion as special guest of honor and keynote speaker then was Col. Fernando Orbase, commander of the PA Reservists 1st Regional Community Defense Group.

"This was the first training course of its kind to be ever held in the region and even nationwide. I think that it was about three months ago, when me and my staff were thinking about conducting an anti-terrorism training, but masyado kayong mabilis (you are all very fast) and you have already conducted one here," Orbase said.

"I congratulate your commanding officer, Capt. Noriel Colarina; your newly-installed executive officer and training course director, Capt. Christopher Bartolo; and the rest of you in the 106th CDC for that," he continued.

"We will be conducting other anti-terrorism training courses in other CDCs elsewhere in the region and we will invite trainors from here in the 106th CDC to help us there," Orbase added.

Receiving the whole batch's certificates of completion was the highest-ranking officer who participated in the training course, Major Francisco Lopez.

Awarded for their efforts in promoting the goals of the 106th CDC then were Capt. Bartolo of the Mt. Province Broadcasting System's DzWT-AM, Msgt. Ernie Olson Jr. of Sun.Star Baguio and TSgt. Joseph Zambrano of the Philippine Information Agency.

Also promoted to the next higher rank on a permanent grade effective July 1 this year, as per Special Order 14, series of 2003, were 16 non-commissioned reservist officers and personnel.

Several others, who also recently enlisted as reservists this year, were issued their respective ranks and Armed Forces of the Philippines serial numbers.

"This training was held three consecutive Saturdays and out of the 78 initial participants, only 63 successfully took and passed the course. We are already planning to stage another anti-terrorism training course for a second batch, and even a training course for trainors afterwards, before we branch out to provide similar trainings for barangay
officials, tanods, teachers, as well as other interested government and private sector employees," Bartolo explained.

"These trainings include VIP and personal security, as well as security of vehicles, buildings and residences. You never can tell, even in places like here in Baguio, there is always a possibility of a terrorist threat. It is always better to be prepared and we have a ready reserve force here in Baguio and Benguet to assist the AFP and the Philippine National Police in cases of emergency," he added.
