Police arrest 'extortionist'

A 33-YEAR old alleged extortionist was detained at the Baguio City Jail over the weekend for charges of illegal detention, serious physical injuries and theft.

A report from the Baguio City Police Office named the suspect as Edwin Padong Bolido of Itogon, Benguet.

Police arrested Bolido somewhere in Itogon after Simplicio Cabrera, 21, a barber and a resident of Purok 7, Kias barangay here, complained to authorities he was abducted by the suspect and suffered heavy fist blows on his head and face.

Cabrera narrated he was about to enter his barbershop in Kias last Saturday morning when Bolido suddenly grabbed him and brought him near his house in Itogon. He claimed that he was tied to a concrete retaining wall and was repeatedly boxed.

Bolido was also positively identified by a 39-year old businesswoman named as Susan Alisto, who alleged that Bolido has allegedly been extorting assorted goods from her worth around P4,700 from April to October this year, police added.

Another businesswoman, Magdalena Tarnate, 44, widow and a resident of Itogon, likewise told police Bolido allegedly took assorted goods worth P440 from her store.

The BCPO called on other possible victims to come out into the open and determine if Bolido is the same person who had victimized them in the past. HFP
