PMA, PIA ink partnership

A MEMORANDUM of Agreement (MOA) was recently signed between the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

The pact was signed by Brig. Gen. Cardozo Luna for and in behalf of PMA superintendent Major Gen. Edilberto Adan and Dr. Renato Velasco, director-general of the PIA.

Key officials of the two institutions and the visiting officers and board of directors of the Luzon Communicators Network (Luzcomnet) witnessed the simple ceremony held inside the PMA conference room.

The MOA seeks to enhance the sharing of resources between the two government institutions for the benefit of the public.

The PIA is expected to disseminate alternative career options that government offers in terms of free quality education through cadetship at the PMA.

The latter, on the other hand, seeks to utilize PIA's vast communication resources and information dissemination networks to attract young, able-bodied, and patriotic men and women to join the Armed Forces of the Philippines through the PMA.

Meanwhile, this year's entrance examination had the highest yield of cadet applicants with over 15,000 applicants trooping to the 33 PMA testing centers all over the nation last September 21 to vie for a slot in the PMA class 2008.

With this landmark undertaking, the two institutions hope to repeat or even surpass the number of cadet applicants at next year's entrance examination - even without the Oakwood incident that brought an increased "awareness" on the PMA.
