141 Mt. Province barangays energized
BONTOC, Mt. Province -- Moving forward closer to its target goal of bringing electric light to all 141 barangays of Mountain Province, Mopreco had maximized its limited financial resources for this fiscal year and extended the power lines to 13 far-flung villages, increasing the total number of energized barangays in this province to 11 as of Oct. 31.
The remaining three remotest barangays - Bunot, Bacarri and Anonat - all within the eastern municipality of Paracelis are the next to be supplied with electricity as soon as sufficient funds are made available under the rural electrification expansion program of the government.
Full electrification of Mountain Province was assured by Mt. Province Electric Coop General Manager Jude Domoguen during the weekly Tongtongan PIA Radio-TV program. Institutional Services Manager Vicky Subilla and technical staff member Mico Andawi also presented year-end major accomplishments of the coop in the same forum.
Reporting on the performance of Mopreco in support of the government rural electrification expansion program, Domoguen said out of 144 barangays of Mountain Province, 141 are now energized with the complete electrification of the 13 far-flung villages.
Electrification of the three remaining barangays would also be fast-tracked to take effect as soon as budgetary allocation for the expansion project is approved, he assured.
Domoguen likewise assured that after connecting all 14 barangays of Mountain Province to the main power lines, the next move would be to extend the power service lines to sitios without electricity with the exception of three barangays - Ambagew, Besao municipality; Maducayan of Natonin and Buringal, Paracelis - where the solar system was installed as source of electricity.
At the end of the 3rd quarter, Mopreco has completed 828 household wiring services. Mopreco now has a total of 18,165 household connections. Potential household connection provincewide was placed at 25,811.
Because of the high efficiency of Mopreco in the implementation of the rural electrification program, the coop also signed a memorandum of agreement with Beneco to include Balili, Mankayan, Benguet in its coverage service area considering its proximity to Mountain Province.
Similar MOA was made between Mopreco and Iselco for the former to supply power to neighboring municipalities of Cervantes and Quirino, Ilocos Sur. Part of the understanding was that Iselco has to pay directly to Mopreco the actual power consumption by both Cervantes and Quirino.
The same agreement was applied between Mopreco and Kaelco since the municipality of Tinglayan, Kalinga gets its power from the former. Ben Moga
