Sun.Star lensman wins photo tilt
HARLEY F. Palangchao, Sun.Star photojournalist, grabbed the first prize in the photo contest co-sponsored by the Lepanto Mines Division and the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC).
It was a back-to-back win for Palangchao, who also topped the same photojournalism contest last year held within the Lepanto mines compound and its host communities, particularly the mineral-rich Mankayan town.
Nick Calinao of Radio Philippines Network (RPN) TV12-Baguio, who is also a correspondent of Zig-Zag Weekly, took home the second place award while Fernando Zapata Jr., of the Philippine Star and Agence France Press (AFP), won the third prize award. Zapata was the second-prize winner last year.
The winners will receive their respective cash prizes and plaques during awarding ceremonies in Lepanto's Makati office on December 19, with LCMCo. president Bryan Yap as special guest and speaker.
The judging of the photo entries, which were sent by Baguio-based amateur and professional photojournalists, was held at Poro Point here on Wednesday night.
The panel of judges included veteran newsmen from Baguio, Lepanto officials and representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Participants to the photojournalism award captured events in line with the theme "Touching Lives at 67." Lepanto, the biggest gold producer in the entire country, celebrated its 67th anniversary last September.
