Number-coding break set on Dec. 24-Jan. 2

MOTORISTS will have a respite from the City Government's vehicle number-coding scheme here as Baguio Mayor Bernardo Vergara ordered the suspension of the traffic design from December 24, 2003 to Jauary 2, 2004.

The mayor, in an administrative order, said the suspension of the number-coding scheme is in line with the Yuletide celebration, for which the City has prepared a line-up of activities under the annual "Pasko sa Baguio" calendar.

"During this time, our city is expecting a heavy influx of visitors, local and foreign, to celebrate Christmas in our city," the mayor said.

He said there is also a possibility that President Arroyo and her family will again spend their holiday in the city, thus the need to temporarily relax the City's traffic rules.

Section 7 of Ordinance 1-2003 or the "Baguio City Number Coding Scheme Ordinance" allows suspension of the number-coding scheme "to allow the observance of major official celebrations or similar activities for a limited duration or specific period."
