Mayor affirms housing project of City Hall staff in Irisan

MAYOR Bernardo Vergara has affirmed City Council Resolution 42-2004 last week approving the implementation of the proposed housing project of the Baguio City Government Homeowners Association Incorporated in Irisan.

The resolution, which was introduced by Vice Mayor Betty Lourdes Tabanda and Councilors Nicasio Aliping Jr., Elmer Datuin, Antonio Tabora Jr., Galo Weygan. Edilberto Tenefrancia, Federico Mandapat Jr., Faustino Olowan and Braulio Yaranon, also authorized the BCGHA to enter into a contract with any qualified developer for the implementation of a low-cost housing project there under the supervision of the city government.

The body, in a separate resolution, also approved the request of the homeowners’ association for the purchase of a 18,000-square meter lot owned by the city government in Irisan as a site of said housing project. The open spaces of the said lot will be excluded from the lot cost.

Tabanda, action officer of the city’s Housing & Urban Development Board, said that the board and the association began working on the housing project last year.

The board prepared the subdivision scheme and housing design for the project which adopted the row house concept.

"There will be 298 housing units, with each unit containing an area of 24 square meters, and with a provision for vertical expansion," Tabanda said.

Engr. Evelyn Cayat of the City Planning & Development Coordinating Office, who serves as president of the association, said they have so far listed a total of 207 potential beneficiaries from various city government offices including the police and teachers who manifested intention to avail themselves of units in the housing project. Remaining slots are still open for employees, who may want to avail themselves of the program, which will be financed through the Pag-IBIG, the Government Service Insurance System or any other financial instrumentalities.

The homeowners association is composed of the potential beneficiaries and is now registered with the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board in the Cordillera Administrative Region. Aileen Refuerzo
