2nd pre-national vegetable congress set
THE Department of Agriculture, through the Agriculture Training Institute, has initiated a second pre-national vegetable congress regional consultation for alliance building on March 9 and 10.
The activity will be held at the ATI-NTI BSU compound aimed at rationalizing the need for collective actions and initiate alliance-building efforts among vegetable producers and traders' groups, and to situate the region's participation in the upcoming 2nd national vegetable congress in the formulation of a holistic action plan enabling the agency's representatives to actively participate in the congress.
The 2nd national vegetable congress will be from April 21-23 also at BSU.
This activity is a joint project of DA, and local government units of Benguet, Ifugao and Mountain Province with 67 participants expected to attend.
The delegation will be composed of provincial agriculturists, provincial agriculture and fisheries councils' presidents, chairmen of the provincial board committee on agriculture from the three provinces, provincial high value coordinators of coordinating council, municipal agriculturists, representatives of the DA field office and its attached agencies, the academe represented by extension directors of state colleges and universities from said provinces.
Participants would analyze the region's vegetable industry, taking into consideration updates on vegetable smuggling, unending challenges of the General Agreement on Tariff and Trade, including issues and concerns raised during the first national vegetable congress held last year.
Serving as a preparatory effort in the upcoming 2nd national vegetable congress, participants in the pre-congress activity are expected to plan out specific individual or agency roles that will be capitulated as the region's holistic approach for active involvement and participation in this year's congress.
After the 2nd national congress, the ATI will undertake a post regional vegetable congress aimed at establishing a set of action points and activities in pursuit of building and strengthening vegetable-based farmers' organizations, and initiating expansion of alliance building to other community-based farmer's groups in other provinces in the region.
