Cecile Licad performs at Camp John Hay March 27
WORLD-acclaimed Filipino pianist Cecile Licad - described by American critics as "one of the great flaming talents that comes along one or two times in every generation" - will perform in Baguio City on March 27 at 7 pm at the CAP-John Hay trade and cultural center.
Fresh from her debut in Paris early this month, Licad will proceed to Baguio after her Manila engagement with the San Miguel Philharmonic on the occasion of the 170th year of Ayala Corporation and the 42nd anniversary of Ayala Foundation.
Presented by the Bank of the Philippine Islands and the Camp John Hay Manor Hotel, the March 27 concert will raise funds for the Share-a-Joy Foundation.
Licad was last heard in Baguio December of 1988 when she graced the 1988 Baguio International Music Festival along with Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses and distinguished Filipino tenor Otoniel Gonzaga.
"She will be back in Baguio City after an absence of 15 years," said writer-impresario Pablo Tariman, who is managing the 2004 Licad concert tour. "I have colorful memories of that concert because there was a long line of Licad fans at Saint Louis University and she had to make do with a baby grand piano she jokingly called a grand fetus because it was much smaller than a baby grand."
For the March 27 engagement, a full grand piano will travel from Manila to Baguio.
Licad’s program will include Schumann’s Sonata in G Minor, Op. 22, Oliver Knessen’s Prayer Bell Sketch, Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 81 (Les Adieux) and Choplin’s Twelve Etudes, Op. 25.
