Joey Ayala, kids and country musicians set Earth Day show

ALTERNATIVE music artist Joey Ayala will team up with kids, poets and Baguio's country musicians on Wednesday in a free concert and theater presentation for cleaner air at the Baguio SM Entertainment Plaza in observance of Earth Day.

Sponsored by the Baguio Regreening Movement, the city's multi-sectoral umbrella group of volunteers at the forefront of the city's environmental thrusts, the April 21 show will be opened at 5 p.m. by former city prosecutor and BRM chair Erdolfo Balajadia.

The Cordillera Youth Theatre Group, under the direction of the regional office of the Philippine Information Agency headed by Director Helen Tibaldo, will start the performances, followed by a puppet show by the PIA Puppet Group.

Local poets led by consistent Palanca winner and journalist Frank Cimatu will take over at 6:30 p.m. Also reading their pieces will be Pam Cruz, Stephanie Robia., Choy Pangilinan, Mercy Dulawan, Armand Galimba, Baboo Mondonedo, Gabby Keith and Bagnos Cudiamat.

Interspersed with the poetry reading will be country music performances by soloist Conrad Marzan, Bryan Aliping and Alfred Dizon, duet Mhia and Kenneth, and the Freewheelin' Band led by the ageless Mike Santos of Music Magic.
Ayala is scheduled for jamming with the local artists at 8 p.m.

Mondonedo, who heads the BRM's drive for clean air, will give the closing message.

Local bicycle riding enthusiasts will also perk up the drive with a mass ride around the city, according to David Leprozo, president of the Tourism Press Club.

Leprozo is also to lead a team of mountain climbers set to scale Mt. Pulag, the country's second highest peak, on April 24 and 25. Ramon Dacawi
