Montojo is new Naval Force commander

CAMP ALLEN, Baguio City - Commodore Arturo Montojo was installed as new commander of the Naval Forces in Northern Luzon in a turnover rites conducted at Poro Point, San Fernando City, La Union.

The change of command was presided over by no less than Vice Admiral Ernesto de Leon, flag officer-in-command of the Philippine Navy.

A report reaching the office of the 11th Civil Relations Unit for the Ilocos and Cordillera Region with MSgt. Melton Gamboa of the Philippine Navy as the NCOIC and spokesman stressed that Captain Ernesto Bonifacio was earlier designated as OIC of the NFNL during a turnover ceremonies on May 22, when Commodore Amado Sanglay took his compulsory retirement.

Gamboa said that Bonifacio's relief as OIC is not a part of any reshuffle of top-ranking officers in the Philippine Navy, as well as the entire armed forces, but that he was only reassigned and designated as deputy commander of the NFNL prior to the next higher position.

"If Captain Bonifacio was promoted to star rank, then he may be the next in line commander." he explained.

Montojo said, in his acceptance speech, that he will encourage his subordinate commanders and personnel to be more dynamic in their approach to the needs of civilians within area of jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, De Leon said the Naval Forces in Northern Luzon has a very important role in safeguarding the north sea coastal areas and in intercepting commercial sea craft that were found to be bringing in illegal drugs or illegally entering the Philippine sea territory in the past.
