Anti-drug abuse council schedules 2004 activities

THE Baguio City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac) has scheduled a number of activities to be implemented this year and early next year as a result of its two-day budget planning session conducted at Hotel Veniz recently.

Among the activities scheduled is the inmates restoration course at the Baguio City Jail from September 1 to 30, a drug abuse seminar, which was held at the Irisan National High School, a guidance counselors' training in coordination with the Department of Education Division of City Schools from September 16 to 17, and a study of the proposed city treatment & rehabilitation center from September to December this year.

Also to be implemented is an after-care and follow-up program of the inmates restoration course from October 5 to March 21 of next year; a short-term stay-in residential course for the youth at the Parents Againsts Drugs' Halfway Home from October 15 to November 15; a peer counseling training course for student government officers with the Department of Education on October 21 and 22; and the Search for the Best Barangays Against Illegal Drugs in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Governments from October to November among others.

Next month, CADAC also scheduled another short-term after-care and follow-up residential course at the PAD Halfway Home from November 16 to April 4 next year, sports activities in coordination with the Youth Council and the City Social Welfare & Development Office from November 11 to 22, a skills training course for pastors and lay leaders, and other Anti-Drug Month activities.

Early this year, the CADAC conducted an 18-month after-care and follow-up program at the PAD Halfway Home from May 1 to October; a meeting of coordinators of the inmates restoration course at the PAD Halfway Home on August 24; a workers orientation seminar in preparation for the inmates restoration course at the same venue on August 30 aside from its regular monthly meetings and activities.

With Mayor Braulio Yaranon as its chairman; Senior Supt. Isagani Nerez, BCPO director, as vice chair; Vice Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. as action officer and Dorothy Dacumos as project coordinator, other members of the CADAC include DILG city director Jose Rapanut, Dr. Ceferino Cawaon of the DepEd Division of City Schools, City Prosecutor Benedicto Carantes, City Health Officer Florence Reyes, City Social Welfare & Development Officer Betty Fangasan, Piblic Information Officer Ramon Dacawi, Dominador Roxas, Rev. Dr. Simplicio Dang-awan Jr., Councilor Rufino Panagan of the Association of Barangay Councils, Councilor Leonardo Bayan Jr. of the SK Federation and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Director Danilo Flordeliza.

Project partners of the CADAC include Shalom House as represented by managing director Regina Molintas, the PAD Halfway Home as represented by manager Evelyn Rivera and Child & Family Services (Philippines) Incorporated as represented by executive director Elita Herrero.

Also included as official media partner of the CADAC was the Philippine National Police Press Corps-Cordillera. (Ernie Olson Jr.)
