City's bid to host 19th Advertising Congress approved

THE City Council approved Wednesday a proposed resolution supporting the city's bid to host the 19th National Advertising Congress and imploring the Philippine Advertising Board to approve the city's offer to host the event.

The Ad Congress is a showcase of the latest technological advances in media, advertising, office systems, telecommunications, international networks and other human inventions attracting investors, entrepreneurs, media and advertising outfits from different parts of the country and the world.

Mayor Braulio Yaranon had earlier sent a letter to the Advertising Board expressing the city's willingness to host the event in 2005 which it successfully hosted last year.

Councilor Perlita Chan-Rondez, the measure's proponent, said that Baguio's hosting of the Ad Congress last year has surpassed the expected number of targeted delegates bringing the city to the limelight and boosting its position as a premiere convention venue north of Manila.

"The city is continuously and persistently upgrading its facilities in order to meet national standards. Considering that Baguio has adequate manpower and facilities to host, implement and undertake big events as it has successfully shown in its very own institutionalized events, hosting the 19th Advertising Congress will directly provide additional income for local constituents and the city's coffers," she explained.

Rondez added that a number of local government and non-government organizations have pooled their resources in a joint effort to get the Philippine Advertising Board's approval of the city's bid to host the event realizing the importance and benefits of the endeavor.
