Bar time limit starts next month
LIQUOR-ORIENTED establishments are given until the end of the month to comply with the new business hours set by the City Government of Baguio.
Mayor Braulio Yaranon said that Administrative Order (AO) 114, which limits the business time of the drinking establishments, took effect last August 2 but the City will give the businesses up to August 31 to prepare the notices and inform their clients on the adjusted closing hours.
Yaranon appealed to owners of the bar and amusement centers to comply with laws and directives limiting their business hours.
"It is hoped that all will cooperate as this measure is being implemented to bring peace and discipline to the people especially the students and young generation, families, tourists and businessmen and the general public that the City Government is committed to promote their general welfare," the mayor said.
As per mayor's order, nightclubs, cocktail lounges, beer gardens, bars, duly accredited tourism-oriented firms, bars, disco pads and cabarets will be allowed only to operate from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. The same order also set the business time for folkhouses, restaurants, coffee shops and cocktail lounges from 3 p.m. to 12 midnight and ordinary retail stores, which serve liquor, whether it be for consumption within or outside the establishment, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
For establishments not mentioned in the order, like videoke, billiards and computer centers, the mandated closing time will be until 9 p.m. as provided in Amusement Ordinance (AO) 15- 2000.
"Those who violate this (order) will be penalized through the cancellation of their permits and closure of their establishments in the same manner as those provided in the Liquor and Tax Code or other applicable ordinances," Yaranon said.
"We have committed to make our city a Character City and therefore, let us all unite, cooperate and work positively to attain this objective for the good of all," he added.
