Massive clean-up drive in city set

ON AUGUST 27 and every Saturday thereafter, all 128 barangays in Baguio City are ordered to conduct massive clean-up drives, primarily to sustain the city's reputation as a the cleanest and greenest city in the country.

In Administrative Order (AO) 132-05, Mayor Braulio Yaranon said the massive clean-up in the barangays is also to prevent the occurrence of diseases which might again result to a decline in tourist arrivals here.

"It is imperative to safeguard our environment through frequent and regular clean-ups, most especially in the barangays, and at the same time control the prevalence and occurrences of various diseases which threaten the health of our constituents, as well as our visitors," the mayor explained.

The 128 barangay chairmen, in the meantime, were ordered to mobilize all available manpower and resources in their respective communities.

The mayor likewise authorized the use of available barangay funds for these clean-ups, subject to the requisite government accounting and auditing rules.

The 20 district coordinators and the Barangay Affairs Office headed by Community Affairs Officer Laurence Adube, meanwhile, was ordered to conduct a citywide monitoring to ensure compliance of this order. (RO)
