Korean show added as Baguio Day events
THE 96TH Baguio City Charter Day anniversary will be celebrated with a Korean cultural and traditional show at the Baguio Convention Center on September 1 and a Friendship Cup golf tournament at Camp John Hay on September 4.
Supervising Tourism Operations officer Benny Alhambra, who also serves as officer-in-charge of the City Administrator's Office and Baguio Day action officer, said the first activity will be performed by the United Korean Community Association headed by Hae Choul Joung "to introduce to citizens of Baguio an experience of the Korean tradition through a spectacle of cultural performances."
"This being the fulfillment of our common purpose to provide avenues to further improve the inter-relationship between Flipinos, particularly in Baguio, and Koran residents," he explained.
"This is one performance to look forward to, in the aim to better appreciate the Korean culture and further improve the relationship between Filipino and Korean citizens," Alhambra added.
Among the members of the performing group are Lim Yi Jo a Kwak Tae Chun, a professor in Young-nam University, who was described as an intangible cultural treasure and holder of the "Sal-Pu-Ri" that once performed with his transverse bamboo flute at the Rizal Park with the Young Nam cultural team in 2004; Professor Moon Dong Ok, the president of the Man-Pa-Sik-Juk Preservation Corporation, who is also a transverse bamboo flute player and master; Chun Myung Sun, a Kyo-Bang-Mu performer; Lee Chae Hee, the manager of the Korean Classical Music Association Hawaii branch, who is famous for his high performances in the USA; Chae Han Suk, a man who was described "to have great affection for the Philippines" and initiator of the Tae-Pyung-Mu; and Lee Joo Yeon, the president of the Ryun dance team; among others.
Alhambra said the performance at the Baguio Convention Center on September 1 at 7 p.m. would be open free to the public. (ENO)
