October, November named environment preservation months
BAGUIO City has dedicated the months of October and November as environment preservation, cultural appreciation and kinship recollection months."
Mayor Braulio Yaranon issued Administrative Order 159 for this purpose. "The holding of the (special event) is an endeavor where members of the constituency and visitors renew their vows to preserve the environment; give respect to their departed loved ones, hold family reunions, celebrate the splendor of cultural diversity in the city and take pride in the luscious bounties of the Cordillera highlands through the holding of the Baguio Tossed Salad Festival."
Activities that will make up the celebration include the Octoberfest, All Saints and Souls Days, Gran Cordillera Festival and the annual Baguio Tossed Salad fest.
Yaranon also formed an executive committee to spearhead preparations for various activities lined up.
The mayor will serve as overall chair with Rep. Mauricio Domogan and Vice Mayor Reinaldo Bautista as overall co-chair and acting administrator Benedicto Alhambra as action officer.
The mayor also formed program committees for the special event:
"Oplan Kaluluwa" to be chaired by Councilor Galo Weygan, which will map out guidelines to ensure peaceful and orderly celebrations of All Saints and Souls Day as per Administrative Order 253- 2004; Baguio Tossed Salad Festival to be spearheaded by the Baguio Association of Hotels and Inns chaired by Jeanine and Gerry Beltran; and Octoberfest/Gran Cordillera Festival with Alhambra, Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Purificacion Molintas and Baguio Tourism Council chair Nicolas Tabora at the helm.
The executive committee will be tasked to oversee the implementation of these activities, seek ways and means to ensure that the activities will be properly supported and prepare policies, guidelines and measures to ensure overall success of the event.
