Mayor junks bid to halt bar curfew to please visitors By Rimaliza Opiña
THE implementation of Administrative Order (AO) 114 would not be suspended if only to accommodate a certain group.
Following the clamor by some bar owners for the mayor of Baguio City to at least suspend the implementation of the curfew on bars every time big delegations arrive in the city, Mayor Braulio Yaranon maintains AO is a "reasonable regulation."
Prior to the filing of class suit, affected bar owners said the AO would not do any good for the city's tourism industry since visitors also choose to go to bars rather than the city's scenic spots.
But Yaranon said the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) and the Anti-Vice Coordinating Task Force would continue implementing the AO.
He said there is nothing that could deter the city from limiting the operations of nightclubs and other liquor-serving establishments after the freeze orders issued by the court already lapsed.
Pending before the sala of Judge Clarence Villanueva of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 7 is a petition filed by more than a hundred bar owners for the issuance of an injunction and subsequent nullification of the AO.
The mayor stressed the suspension of the AO's implementation now depends on the court's ruling.
