Top youth group search winners named

THREE university organizations topped the first search for Outstanding Youth Organizations project of the Rotaract Club of Baguio South (RACBS) and the Rotary Club of Baguio South (RCBS).

They are the Saint Louis University College of Accountancy and Commerce Ecological Society (CACES), the University of the Philippines (UP) Baguio APO Gamma Pi Chapter and the University of the Cordilleras (UC) Peer Facilitators.

CACES is an organization of businessmen-minded students involved in the protection and betterment of the city's environment while the UP APO group is a character-building and service-oriented organization committed to serve the students and faculty of the university, the youth and the local community. The UC peer group is a volunteer body dedicated to ensuring effective learning experiences and providing support services to the university students.

The groups were honored during the awarding ceremonies at the Cooyeesan Hotel Plaza graced by Mayor Braulio Yaranon and Councilor Leonardo Bayan Jr, president of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation.

RACBS president Ryan Guinaran said the project, which is a spin-off of the club's annual search for 10 outstanding youth in the city, will be an annual project to highlight the local youth's community and service orientation, innovativeness, accountability and volunteerism that should serve as inspiration to Baguio residents.

Guinaran said the awardees made significant impact in their respective communities through their programs and projects that are sustainable and can be emulated by other youth organizations in the city.

Winners received prizes, which include trophies, certificates and cash prizes.

RCBS president Mario Alzona Jr. hailed the success of the pilot project of the club's youth arm and encouraged the RACBS to sustain the project in pursuit of its aims to give due recognition to the contributions of youth clubs to the development of the city.

Guinaran and National Youth Commission area officer Yvonne Pumaras chaired the search committee with members: RACBS director Mark Alzona, co-directors Ruscelle Haber and David Yule Camiwet, who were also past 10 Outstanding Youth of Baguio awardees, members Filmore Awas, Labio Calingayan and Yana Gail Castillo, who were also members of organizations, which have been national awardees in the search for the 10 Accomplished Youth Organizations earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the search for the 10 Accomplished Youth Organizations of the Philippines 2006 has been launched by the National Youth Commission (NYC).
