Town dad nabbed for drugs, 'hot' guns
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- A town councilor in Abra, who is also an alleged son of a mayor in a neighboring town, was arrested along with two others for illegal possession of guns and drugs.
The Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera said the three suspects top the list of illegal drug personalities in the region and have long been under surveillance by anti-illegal drug agents and other police operatives.
Chief Superintendent Noe Wong, chief of the Cordillera police, identified the suspects as Nonito Puddok Wilbur alias Intong, 30, of Zone 4, Bangued, Abra and a town councilor of Danglas. He is also reported to be the son of Mayor Felix Castillo of Langiden, Abra.
"Abranians claim that Nonito Wilbur is one of the most notorious drug lords in the area and commonly regarded as an 'untouchable,' being a mayor's son. With his arrest, the Abra people have faith and have shown support for the Criminal Justice System, for the sooner indictment and conviction of the ill-famed town councilor, whom they consider as a menace to their community, especially to the youth," Wong said.
Arrested along with Wilbur were Apuya Galera, 36, of 15 Natividad Street, Zone 2, Bangued, Abra, and Cristine Movito Molina, 19, of Camp Juan Villamor, Bangued, Abra.
Police said confiscated from the trio were three heat-sealed clear plastic sachet of a white crystalline substance, which later tested positive of being shabu that weighed approximately 0.15 gram and has an estimated street value of P300. Also seized from the suspects were assorted shabu paraphernalia, one caliber 45 Colt pistol and one cal. 45 SAM pistol that were both loaded with ammunition.
A report said the suspects were on board a green 1997 model Hyundai van bearing license plate URE-553 when they were caught in the dragnet put up by combined operatives of the Abra Provincial Police Office (PPO) and the 1602nd Provincial Police Mobile Group of Abra.
"The dragnet was prompted by an earlier tip off about the suspects' route from the PRO-Cordillera Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office," Wong added.
Wong said the trio was brought to the Abra PPO for further investigation while the seized illegal drugs were brought to the PNP Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis and appropriate documentation.
The confiscated illegal guns, meanwhile, were put under the custody of the Abra PPO along with the car used by the suspects in their alleged illicit operation. (ENO)
