Benguet leads 11th Regional Skills Olympic
BENGUET dominated the recently concluded 11th Regional Skills Olympic conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) at the SM Baguio.
The Baguio/Benguet team got a total of eight gold medals and three silvers; Abra got three gold medals and five silvers; Ifugao with two gold, four silvers and one bronze; Apayao with two gold and one silver; Mount Province with one gold and one (1) silver and Kalinga with one gold medal.
Baguio/Benguet youth representative Esther Abance delighted the appetite of the judges, who gave her the highest score of 547 for a gold medal and a trophy in cookery while Benjamin Munar got 543 points in the open category also in cookery.
Justiniano Barbosa of Apayao got the highest score for his skills in masonry with 535 points while Bobby Segundo of Abra beat other contestant in the welding category with 538 points.
In the automobile category, Mark Sinong of the Baguio/Benguet team got the highest points of 530 while computer wizard Monalisa Tanauan also with the Baguio/Benguet team was best in the information technology with a score of 533.
Apayao dressmaker Laolynda Castillo showed her talent in the sewing machine besting other contestants with a high score of 531 while Ronald Ugali of Abra bested other contestants in front of the mirror with his scissors in the Ladies/Men's Hairdressing category having a score of 525 points.
Young Ifugao electrician Junjun Tayaban did good in the commercial wiring with a score of 536 while Karen Kayaoyao of the Baguio/Benguet team provided deluxe service for the judges giving her the highest score of 542 points in the restaurant service category.
All gold medallists will represent the region in the National Skills Olympic in Manila to be held in December.
