2 groups to probe slay of 2 NPA members
THE Cordillera Human Rights Alliance (CHRA) and the Cordillera People's Legal Center or Dinteg will conduct a two-day fact-finding mission in Buguias, Benguet, starting Friday.
They said the conduct of the mission is to respond to a request of the family of an alleged New People's Army (NPA) member, who was reportedly killed by police officers in Abatan, Buguias, Benguet.
According to reports, a certain Antonio "Ka Leyap" Licawen of Sadanga, Mountain Province, and his companion Brandon 'Ka Tub-on' Ginaban, also an alleged NPA member, were allegedly murdered by personnel of the Buguias Municipal Police Station in sitio Lay-odan, barangay Sebang, last August 17.
Licawen's family reportedly requested for the conduct of a more in-depth investigation of this case.
The CHRA said the bodies of the alleged rebels bore signs of torture, further stating that based on initial reports, the two were unarmed when they were nabbed by police officers before being found dead.
The conduct of the fact-finding mission, the CHRA and Dinteg said, is aimed to verify, gather and document the incidents that transpired prior to the alleged capture and deaths of the victims.
Representatives of these same non-government organizations disclosed that they will also conduct a basic human rights orientation among members of the communities concerned. (JC)
