Rimban: Discovering your archetypes By Erwin Rimban
THE archetypes of humanity are the guiding templates for the development of personal and collective consciousness. Today, let us learn how we can get in touch with these universal symbols, which form the basis of behavioral patterns throughout life.
Active imagination. Develop the power of your imagination. Imagine. Dream. Visualize. Engage the power of the right brain. It is responsible for nonlinear thought and artistic expression. It perceives the world in wholes in contrast with the left-brain, which perceives the world in simple cause and effect patterns. Critical thinking and problem solving strategies get a boost if you utilize the power of your imagination. Daydream. Express yourself in art and music.
Creative solitude. Create time for yourself. Connect with your soul in solitude. Arrange your personal schedule so that you have time for personal reflection and insight development. Write your thoughts in a personal journal or diary. Wisdom is born in the depths of solitude, when an individual tries to digest and makes sense out of his personal experiences. Study the disciplines, which promote greater connection with your soul. Remember, all soul activities echo in eternity.
Epic fantasy. All the genres of archetypal fiction give rise to innumerable archetypal patterns, like classical mythology, science fiction and epic fantasy. Fantasy has had surprising developments in recent years. It has developed into a respectable genre of world literature as well as the focal point of archetypal education. Read the best fantasy books like The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson, the Shannara series of Terry Brooks and the Pendragon Cycle of Stephen Lawhead. Share them with your family and friends. The heroes and heroines of fantasy books are patterns that can stimulate the soul's dialogue with its destiny. They inspire children to aspire for higher ideals and spiritual virtues.
Artistic immersion. Learn an artistic or musical hobby. It can serve as a prism to focus and manifest your energy patterns. Examples are painting, web design, guitar, drums, violin, etc. The list is almost endless. Art and music serve as focal points where the soul can commune with the transcendental aspects of beauty. They are roads to understanding the Divine. Artistic creations are archetypes of symmetry!
Psychological testing. I am not referring to the conventional psychological tests that one undergoes at universities and other institutions. Rather, I am referring to the special kind of psychological tests used in Analytical Psychology and Archetypal Psychology centers. These are the two fields in psychology, which study the effects of the archetypes of the Collective Unconscious on behavioral dynamics and interpersonal relations. Explore websites in the Internet using these two as keywords and you will get a sample of some psychological tests that concentrate on archetypal development.
Nonlinear thought. Every time we study the archetypes and the Collective Unconscious we are exposed to realms of thought that are beyond the ordinary. Learn to recognize and use nonlinear thought patterns to complement you usual thought patterns. Practice solving problems in a different way. Study systems theory and apply those insights to your personal life. See the inter-relationships of concepts, fields and disciplines. Attack a problem from several fronts. Do not be constrained by habitual patterns of thought. Appreciate the Web of Life.
Spiritual meditation. Meditation helps one to access layers of the Collective Unconscious and Universal Mind that is not accessible in the everyday world. It facilitates the recognition of your personal archetypes. It improves clarity of thought and accelerates both critical and creative thinking. Besides, it helps to catalyze spiritual development. Meditate and evolve!
The archetypes of the Collective Unconscious are fascinating topics for study that can give many rewards in many aspects of life. Let me share more in the future. For question and inquiries, my email is wizardspen@yahoo.com. Embrace Infinity!
