Baguio tossed saladfest set

THE Baguio Tossed Salad Festival, which was expanded to feature a variety of culinary and related events this year, was launched Thursday at the Hotel Tepeyac.

Featuring the biggest if not the heaviest salad ever to be prepared in the city, students taking up Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) in premier universities of Baguio will prepare the salad on-site. Chefs of establishments belonging to the Baguio Association of Hotels and Inns (Bahi) will supervise the students.

The organizers said the biggest tossed salad this year would be prepared in a bowl measuring 10 feet in diameter. Its presentation to the public would be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 27. The festival itself, however, is scheduled to open on November 25 and will feature a variety of activities.

Organizers added this year's tossed salad will be made up of vegetables like red peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots that are grown in abundance in the adjoining province of Benguet.

Simultaneous with the distribution of the culinary feast to the public, organizers said they also prepared a variety of entertainment numbers, which would feature musical artists from around the country, raffles and a wall-climbing activity.

"This will give the air a more festive mood during the main event," they said.

An estimated 30,000 people are expected to join the event, which will be held at the Baguio Convention Center.

Baguio City Representative Mauricio Domogan, who the organizers recognize as the "Godfather" of the festival, was invited to take the "first bite". (ENO)
