Kalinga to host 'Regional Development Council' meet
THE Province of Kalinga plays host to the Cordillera Regional Development Council's (RDC) third quarter meeting Friday at the Pastoral Center in the town of Tabuk.
In a meeting of the province's RDC Technical Working Group (TWG), Kalinga will be presenting four key projects for RDC action and inclusion in their regional development plan.
First proposed project is the Chico River Management and Development Program that include the development of the river's tributaries, watershed development, dredging of flooded areas, quarrying regulation and management, waste management and the development of the white water rafting industry.
Another is the Aliog River irrigation project that will supply existing as well as potential arable farmlands in the towns of Tabuk and Rizal, Kalinga and some portions of Cagayan.
The RDC-TWG is also looking forward to the creation of the Kalinga Rice Terraces Commission, which will promote not only the tourism industry of the province but the production of upland rice like the red rice and "unoy" varieties, which are gaining popularity not only in the local market but also in the US market.
The fourth proposal is the opening of the Cagayan-Kalinga-Abra Road via Barangay Pinococ of Pinukpuk. The proposed road will be connecting the town of Pinukpuk with Pinococ, which at present is only open for traffic via the Naruangan Road of Tuao, Cagayan.
Expected to attend the RDC meeting are local officials from six provinces in the region, regional directors of government line agencies and private sector representatives.
RDC, the highest policy making body in the region was re-organized in July 2001 through Executive Order (EO) 30 signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
