Baguio photogs score big in foto tilt
BAGUIO photojournalists romped off with the most cash prizes in the recently-concluded Cordilleras' Best Photo Competition and Exhibit by pooling a combined prize of P71,000 from the total pot of P109,000.
The top three winners were Dave Leprozo Jr., who garnered a total prize of P20,800, Harley Palangchao with P20,400 and Sly Quintos with P9,200.
Thirty-four professional and amateur photographers participated in the 37-category contest, which netted 270 entries in various tourism categories. The photo entries were selected based on their tourism appeal, composition, clarity and color.
The panel of judges included Tommy Hafalla, Ompong Tan and Bong Tabora.
The winning photographs, together with Gilbert Alberto's stone and wood sculptures, are on exhibit at the Baguio-Mountain Provinces Museum until November 28 this year.
Proponents said the joint Cordilleras' Best Arts and Crafts and Photo Exhibits are just two of a series of major tourism events being sponsored by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in the region, under the aegis of the WOW Philippines project, which will be capped by a parade of festivals on Dec. 4, 2005.
They said winners of the photo contest may claim their prizes at the DOT Regional Office along Gov. Pack Road in Baguio City on Nov. 28, 2005. (PR/DOT-Cordillera)
