ANOTHER 30 points from JR Reyes for another 100 or more performance for the team as Yokosan stretched its lead to 20 halfway in their game in the 56th Filipino-American (Fil-Am) Invitational Golf Tournament at the Baguio Country Club golf course Tuesday.

Rusty Barfield and Darren Smith came in 24 points apiece as Hickam Mamala Bay shot a total 91 points for a two-day total of 184 going in to the third round Wednesday wherein powerhouse Nike will start its title-retention bid.

Villa Cacho turned in 87 points for 182 and only two off Hickam Mamala Bay for the 17-day golf fest that attracted a record total of 1,029 players from 216 teams that came from six countries, including the Philippines.

Crystal Dew Matikas slowed down a bit but still leads in the AM B action with 176 points after a second day production of 82 points. Wilson Amper leads the team with 26 points, while Leonido Dalut, Corleto Lopez and Alex Ignacio made 23, 18 and 15 in that order.

Pugad Lawin checks in second with 173 points after an 85 production. Those who scored for Pugad Lawin are Chito Cruz (24), Albert Lai (21), Ruy Lopez (21) and Rey Garcia (19).

Guam Kool Swingers shot 81 points en route to a two-day total of 166 that is good for third spot.

Actions, however, will be centered on Southeast Asian (SEA) Games individual champion and pro-bound Juvic Pagunsan whose Nike squad starts its title retention game Wednesday at the BCC course.

Pagunsan, how powered RP Team to the SEA Games gold in team play, will start his farewell bid early at the par-61 BCC course's 10th hole.

Pagunsan has the best handicap index at +5.10 and tow five others for team Nike which also has RP team member Jay Bayron (+2.5), Jun Bernis (+1.80), Abe Rosal (+1.60), Mario Labajo (+1.50) and Mark Fernando (+1.40) for a league leading +3.133 handicap.

Out to challenge the defending champions is five-time champion Manila Southwoods which is now backed by Rudy Project which boasts of a +3.1 handicap index.

The Carmona, Cavite-based team is bannered by come-backing Erwin Vinluan who totes the best handicap of +3.5. He is backed by youthful Tonton Asistio (+3.30), Gene Bondoc (+2.30), Jan Michael Yee (+1.40) and Anthony Fernando (+1.40).

Marvin Dumandan (-2.10) will lead 2002 champion Mizuno - DHL to a better finish this year and is ranked fourth in handicap index with -1.067. Eastridge is the fifth team in the Filipino Championship.

Nike's other team is also rated tops in the American Championship flight with +0.567. But the team will miss multi-awarded Tommy Manotoc, who with son Matthew skipped this year's Fil-Am. The team, however, remains formidable with Roni Torrecampo, Dave Hernandez, Boyet Zaragosa, Jonel Ababa, Joseph Labajo and Jessie Balasabas.

Michael Bibat will lead Manila Southwoods which has a +0.333 rating this year and is ranked second. Mizuno DHL and Royal Carribean are the other teams seeing action in American Championship flight. (PL)
