4 of 8 'muggers' arraigned

FOUR out of eight muggers were arraigned on robbery with violence charges before Baguio City's Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 5 Wednesday, after they were arrested one after the other by detectives of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) the past weeks.

All eight suspects, who were positively identified by their victim from the mugfile of the Baguio City Police Office earlier, had a recommended bail of P200,000 each for their provisional liberty.

Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez, BCPO director, identified the suspects as Chester Tayab Salio-an, Jonathan Salem Fuentes, Lloyd Mendoza Mateo, Raymundo Banisay Martin, Noel Dumalig Gangan, Marlon Lidaco Lus-ok, Sonny Seguin dela Cruz and Marlon Madulid Maglilong.

Nerez also named their victim as Roger Arco Pascual, 34, married, an overseas contract work applicant from Isabela, who resides in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Pascual said he was walking in front of the Maharlika Livelihood Complex along Upper Magsaysay Avenue at around 9PM of October 17 this year, when two of the suspects allegedly held his neck and arms while their other cohorts reportedly searched his pockets for valuables.

Stolen was his Nokia 3310 cellphone valued at P6,000, a belt bag and a wallet containing P15,000.

"Immediately afterwards, they scampered towards different directions, wherein half of the group ran towards Abanao Street while the remaining group ran inside the public market. This prompted me to give chase until 1st Kayang Street, but I failed to catch up with them," Pascual said.

The victim further told Police Officer 3 Juanito Meneses II, the investigating officer then, that although none of them were caught that night, he would be able to recognize them if he sees them again. Showing Pascual the office mugfiles of the BCPO Market Task Force, the former positively identified all eight suspects, as attested by an affidavit also signed by Senior Insp. Lavis Camdas.

The four remaining suspects, who are reportedly at large as of presstime, are still the subject of a manhunt. (ENO)
