Harrison night market starts Saturday By Rimaliza Opiña
SESSION Road vendors participating in the night market will be transferred to Harrison Road across Melvin Jones Grandstand in time for the Christmas celebration in Baguio City.
However, the proposal will be limited to bona fide residents of Baguio and will be done on experimental basis only in the meantime that the City Government is still in the process of locating a permanent site for a night market, said Mayor Braulio Yaranon in a press briefing Friday.
Yaranon said registration would be done on an individual basis to avoid the possibility that some groups might take advantage of collecting registration fees from concerned vendors without authority from the City Government.
The night market starts from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
The mayor, meanwhile, said he is unlikely to adopt the proposal of Councilor Daniel Fariñas to open up some portions of the public market for the night bazaar as it might violate the interest of legal leaseholders.
He also assailed those given an opportunity to vend at Session Road for allegedly abusing the privilege given by the City Government.
Yaranon claimed he received reports that some vendors have been selling fish and shellfishes at the heart of Session Road.
