Pilot jeepney database up By Ernie N. Olson Jr.
A COMPUTER database on members of the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Associations in Baguio, Benguet and La Union (Fejodabblu) would soon be made available as reference for concerned government offices and the general public.
Fejodabblu president Perfecto Itliong Jr., during the joint inauguration of their first office in Baguio City with the South Sea Surety and Insurance Company and Kropf Friday afternoon, said the establishment of the computer database, which will be jointly developed with the two private firms, will be a pilot project described as the first to be undertaken nationwide.
"If this pilot project would be successful locally, this may be adapted elsewhere in the Philippines," Itliong said.
He added that the computer database would include all necessary information regarding the 4,362 public utility jeepney units belonging to the 93 jeepney drivers plying Baguio, Benguet and La Union routes.
Itliong said although no colorum jeepneys have yet been discovered plying routes within the city, there are a few operating in some remote areas of Benguet.
With the full operation of the pilot project to be undertaken by them with South Sea Surety and Kropf, he assured that the operation of the few remaining colorum public utility jeepneys (PUJs) would be further minimized if not totally stopped.
