Police deny jueteng revival in Buguias
CHIEF Superintendent Leonardo Dionisio, chief of the Cordillera police, said Friday that the illegal numbers game jueteng did not resume in Buguias, Benguet.
Dionisio said he already anticipated the revival of jueteng, but is optimistic that the illegal gambling would be stopped with proper coordination by police and local officials and the public.
He said his policy is "not to organize secret marshal" to (monitor) the existence of the underground lottery but to seek the help of municipal officials and civic-minded organizations in the campaign against the illegal numbers game.
The Cordillera police chief also disclosed that the operation of jueteng had resumed in the Province of Kalinga but it was immediately stopped.
Mayor Thomas Palileng earlier denied that jueteng is back in Buguias. He said raids conducted by the municipal police proved that jueteng have not returned in the locality.
He further denied the presence of other forms of gambling in the town. (JC)
