Relocation for displaced vendors known By Rimaliza Opiña
BAGUIO City Administrator Peter Fianza said Monday they have identified some areas in the city market that may be used as relocation sites for displaced vendors.
Fianza said leaders of vendors' organizations were already told to submit updated listing of their members. He said the City Government will use the census as basis on how many vendors the relocation sites could accommodate.
He said there are about 1,000 sidewalk and overpass vendors who have been affected by the city's anti-illegal peddling campaign
He said during a recent meeting, vendors requested they should be allowed to continue selling at Burnham Park, in front of the Maharlika Livelihood Complex and Malcolm Square, and along Harrison, Perfecto and Abanao roads.
But since vending in the areas is prohibited, the request was turned down.
Fianza said Upper Kayang, Tabora Park and the area between the vegetable sections, fronting the Cunanan Studio to the rice section, could be used as relocation sites for the displaced vendors.
He said a draft containing the regulations for the utilization of the areas is already being worked out. Another meeting is scheduled on February 23 to further discuss the relocation of vendors.
