Mayor orders review of flyover budget
BAGUIO City Mayor Braulio Yaranon has directed the City Engineer's Office (CEO) to assess the breakdown of expenses in the construction of the proposed flyover at the Baguio General Hospital (BGH) rotunda.
This, as Yaranon said the construction of the flyover could be done only if the budget for its construction would match the review made by the CEO.
He insisted that no construction should be done unless a certification is issued that the P88-million funds is available.
The first phase of the project has been bid out and was eventually awarded to the Advanced Foundation Specialists Inc. (Afsi) way back 2002. Its construction however could not start because the mayor refused to issue a tree cutting clearance to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH Regional Director Mariano Alquiza had continuously urged Yaranon to issue the clearance so that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) could issue a tree-cutting permit.
The contractor's filing of charges against the DPWH is also a possibility, said Alquiza.
The contractor, meantime, reportedly agreed to defer the construction pending further action from the Office of the Mayor. (RO)
