2nd Cool City Palm Sunday race up
REGISTRATION is ongoing for long-distance runners, who want to join the Second Cool City Palm Sunday Race, which took the place of the annual 10K Pharmaton Classic in Baguio City.
Race director Rosario Velasco-Alberto said cash prizes, trophies and medals await the top 10 winners of both the 21-kilometer (21K) run and five-kilometer (5K) side event.
She said while the 21K race will fire off at 5:30 a.m., the 5K event will start at 6 a.m. both at the Lake Drive of Burnham Park on April 9.
All finishers will also receive Cool City race t-shirts and certificates of participation, and special prizes will also be awarded to the biggest delegation and the youngest participant.
Aside from the top 10 winners in both events, Alberto said the runners with the best finishing time in seven age categories will also receive prizes.
She said she decided to open the registration for the race this early because of the advance reservations received from the Runnex and the Direct Link running clubs of Manila during the Second Philippine International Marathon for the Pasig River, where 13 members of the Cool City group placed in the top 20 last Sunday.
She said their Cool City group is encouraging all running and fitness enthusiasts to join the race because no races have been calendared locally after the event.
This, after the Milo Marathon organizing committee had chosen San Fernando City, La Union as the venue to stage its Region 1 qualifying run.
Aside from Baguio City being reportedly bypassed as the venue for the Milo Marathon regional qualifying run for the second year in a row, Alberto also disclosed that members of its technical staff are training for both the Manila Marathon and the Manila leg of the Milo Marathon.
The race director herself has begged off to train for the Asian Masters Championship that would also be held this year.
The Cool City road races are supported by Bodybase Aerobics Center and the Sanidad & Villanueva Law Office. Registration is ongoing during regular office hours at the security desk located at the entrance of Laperal Building along Session Road. (ENO)
