RP's Mountain Bike pro tour Baguio leg up
AFTER a successful National Capital Region (NCR) and Southern Luzon elimination leg race last February 24 and 25 in San Mateo, Rizal, the Philippine Mountain Bike Championship Pro Tour 2006 will visit Baguio for the Northern and Central Luzon elimination leg race on April 8 and 9.
The race will be a revelation to all Northern Luzon riders, who will be expecting dominance during the competition race. Ranked number three in the downhill (DH) category in the pro division is Aki Nolasco of Team Ukay-Baguio, who is eyeing leadership in the tour rankings but will be facing tough challenge from Bans Mendoza and top DH rider Joey Barba of Dumaguete City.
The DH race is slated April 8 and 9, 5 a.m. onwards, at the Tam-awan Race Track, Baguio/La Trinidad. DH category Baguio elimination race is open to skill category such as pro/expert, novice, women, and beginner division.
In the cross-country category, the First Asin Cross Country Mountain Bike challenge will be the official elimination race of the Philippine Mountain Bike Championship Pro Tour 2006, Northern and Central Luzon elimination race.
Local organizer Desar Cheong, who also heads the Baguio-Benguet Mountain Bike Association, will be working hand in hand with Urge Magazine and Rekta Productions and Sport Management Inc. to ensure the success of the race. The race will be on April 8, 5 a.m. onwards, in Asin, Tuba, Benguet.
All top five pro riders who won in the NCR Leg will be head to head in the race, including rivals Eboy QiuƱones and San Mateo boy Dan Antonio. The race is open to aged-groups and pro/expert category.
Awarding and live band party will be on April 9, 7 p.m. onwards, at the Rambakan Drive, SM City Baguio.
