1st Invitational Mountain Bike race set

TUBA, Benguet - The Asin Road Tourism Council, in coordination with the Municipal Government, is inviting all cycling enthusiasts on its First Invitational Mountain Bike Race on April 8 in the town.

Race director Cesar Cheong said the race will go around Nangalisan on a 13-kilometer rugged loop circuit.

Cheong said proceeds from the collected registration fee of P350 will be used by the Municipal Council for its tourism projects in the area, which is in line with the government's tourism program to improve the economy of the country.

He said the participants will be provided with a t-shirt, lunch and certificates which are inclusive from the registration fee.

Categories include open, novice A (38 - below), novice B (39 - above) and beginners. Prizes await the first to third winners, medals for the fourth to 10th winners and certificates for the finishers.

The project is in cooperation with the Provincial Tourism Office, Cordillera Mountaineering Club - T.C.K.I., the tourism department in the Cordillera region, and the Philippine Information Agency.

Nangalisan is a 45-minute drive from Baguio City. Along the way is an array of woodcarving shops, swimming pool resorts and natural greeneries.

Meanwhile, the Urge Magazine, Rekta Productions and Sports Management Inc. support the First Asin Mountain Bike Challenge as it will tie up the event for the Philippine Mountain Bike Championship Professional Tour 2006 - Northern and Central Luzon elimination race.

In a letter to Cheong, Jon Naguit of the Urge Magazine, Rekta Productions and Sports Management Inc. said the First Asin Mountain Bike Challenge for Cross Country MTB racing will be an official qualifying event for the Philippine MTB championship professional category tour on June 3-4 at Divine Mercy Racetrack, San Mateo, Rizal.

Naguit said all top 20 athletes on each non-professional category are qualified to join the national finals. The event will be carried on all promotional campaigns nationwide.

All professional/expert division athletes are also invited to the professional tour - Cebu Leg on May 20-21. The top five will be accorded free transportation, free hotel accommodation, free registration fee, free pack lunch during the competition only.
