P40 million water works ongoing in Ifugao
THE P40-million Banaue-Hingyon-Lagawe water works, funded under the Provincial Development Assistance Fund of Representative Solomon Chungalao, is expected to solve water shortage in the growing municipalities of the province when fully implemented.
Judith Binwag of the public works department said the project, which was allotted a P5 million per phase implementation started January 2003. Already on its 10th phase of implementation, the project has reached a 50 percent accomplishment.
Binwag added that Chungalao envisioned to bring water to the municipalities of Banaue, Hingyon and Lagawe, which could even extend to Lamut and some parts of Kiangan, to ensure better business and livelihood opportunities.
She said the water project will solve the perennial water problem of commercial centers, private homes, government and non-government institutions, which will also impact on health and sanitation. It will also boost entrepreneurships in the municipalities as tourists destined for Banaue who stop over in Lamut and Lagawe, will receive better services.
Accomplished for the first nine phases were the intake tank and pipeline length of 17.37 kilometers.
