Benguet joins Bangus Festival
THE City Government of Dagupan, through the initiative of the event organizers, has for the first time invited the Provincial Government of Benguet to join the trade fair at the New Malingas Market in Dagupan as part of the ongoing Bangus Festival there.
Anually, Dagupan City, known as the "Bangus Capital of the world," celebrates the said festival which gained a name in the Guinness Book of World Records during the Kalutan ed Dagupan (Grill in Dagupan), as the world’s longest barbecue. However, Turkey took its place in the past years. The said festival started five years ago under the administration of Mayor Benjamin Lim.
Marie Dulnuan, one the event organizers, earlier said this year’s festival is more comprehensive than before because it is concentrated in the community alone.
"It was only concentrated in Dagupan over the past years. Now, it is expanding," Dulnuan said.
Adding that the highlights of the festival are trade, livelihood, real estate, education and opportunities here and abroad, with arts and demo, are also incorporated as part of the festival.
Councilor Alex de Venecia, chairman of the Dagupan City Council committee on trade and market, in his letter forwarded to the Office of the Provincial Governor of Benguet, said the fair is one way to showcase and promote the crafts, products and services of small and medium businesses, and also to meet clients, and/or to undertake business prospecting of clients and promote it to the greater public.
Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Clarita Prudencio of the Provincial Tourism Office, in her letter to Governor Borromeo Melchor through Provincial Administrator Modesto Andong, said the affair is another opportunity for the province of Benguet to showcase its unique tourism destinations and display its own highland products.
"This is an opportunity to showcase our products and the uniqueness of our culture, and an opportunity for them to be able to buy products directly from Benguet," Prudencio said.
Chaired by Dagupan Councilor Nick Aquino, the festival will culminate on May 8 with the Liket tan Gayaga ed Dalan (Happiness and Merriment in the Streets), a grand reunion of all grill owners in the past Kalutan ed Dagupan.
The event is being conducted in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Labor and Employment, the Technical Education and Skills Development Administration, the Department of Education and the Chamber of Real Estate Brokers Associations.
