Housing beneficiaries to be updated

THE City Government will update the master list of potential socialized housing beneficiaries.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Mayor Braulio Yaranon already formed the City Registration Committee, which will undertake the updating process mandated under Section 17 of Republic Act 7279 or the Urban Development and Housing Act.

In Administrative Order 56, the mayor designated City Planning and Development Officer Arturo Orig as head of the committee with the following as members: Councilors Rufino Panagan and Faustino Olowan; City Social Welfare and Development Officer Betty Fangasan; HUDCC representative Michelline Inay; National Housing Authority Regional Manager Eduardo Leano; Presidential Commission on Urban Poor representative Rufino Beltran; City Administrator Peter Fianza and a City Development Council representative.

The city first created the committee by virtue of Ordinance 55-1994. At that time, a survey of potential beneficiaries of low-cost housing was conducted and a master list was completed.

But Yaranon said there is a need to update the list considering the time that elapsed since the first registration was conducted.

The committee will serve as overall coordinating body and secretariat for the entire registration process. It will assist the barangay chairman in creating the barangay registration teams and in orienting the members on the mechanics of the enlistment process.

The committee will be the one to consolidate the master list upon completion of the registration process in the barangay level.

Yaranon authorized the release of P100,000 from the general fund for the undertaking.(Aileen Refuerzo)
