APO-Isis provides balikbayan goods to Kabayan
KABAYAN, Benguet -- Unmindful of the rough roads and heavy rains, members of the Alpha Phi Omega headed by the Gamma Sigma Chapter, motored to this town over the weekend to bring balikbayan goods donated by the APO-International Sorority Sister In Service (Isis).
Other members, who joined in the activity, included APO members from Alpha Psi and Gamma Psi chapters.
Isis is an international organization, composed of APO sorority members, who have opened their lines of communication through the Internet. The APO-Sorority e-Group is a cyber forum where members discuss important, vital and sensitive sorority issues and other matters that relate to or affect the APO sorority as a whole.
Upholding the APO service mission from a mere e-group interaction, the Filipino APO female population formed the group, now called APO-Isis. The group's creation is geared towards tapping the very critical and vital resources of sorority members who have lost touch with APO colleagues in the Philippines but who still have the burning desire to serve and to be of service.
APO-Isis efforts started three years ago with the assistance and support of another international APO group composed of fraternity and sorority members that serve as the link between APO-Isis and the local chapter. This is the 12 Jewels Foundation International (12JFI) based in Chicago, USA.
Both organizations are non-stock, non-profit organization of alumnae of Alpha Phi Omega (Phils.) organized to promote the spirit of cooperation among its members in continuing its service mission by organizing, sponsoring and developing a broad array of national and international programs for educational, literary, scientific, and other humanitarian purposes to benefit underprivileged and impoverished children and their families all over the world, irrespective of race.
The 12 Jewels Foundation is composed of APO fraternity and sorority members based in various parts of the USA while the Isis membership comes from Australia, Philippines, Singapore, Middle East, Canada, and the US, among others.
For the past three years, these two APO international groups have been in service by tapping local chapters in bringing their donations to the country's beneficiaries.
For the second year, Isis organizers chose Benguet Province as the destination area for their effort and service. Last year, the Gamma PSI chapter based in Baguio City, delivered balikbayan boxes to Tuba residents. Earlier on, the province of Surigao also benefited from this endeavor.
Other than the balikbayan boxes composed of thick garments and clothing, packages for Kabayan to be distributed to Barangay Lusod residents also included rice, instant noodles and sardines.
Because of the heavy rains, local chapter-members were unable to reach the barangay. As such, Kabayan Mayor Ernesto Matuday committed to bring the goods to the area between May 24 to 26, in time for the simultaneous holding of the joint outreach program by the local government units of Benguet and Municipality of Kabayan.
APO regional area director Tedler Depaynos of the Alpha Phi chapter facilitated in bringing the goods to Kabayan.
